In 2019, the outdoor training day brought the members of IMA Italy to visit "La Fonte" an equestrian center in San Salvatore Monferrato (AL) for an equicoaching experience under the guidance of Anouk Silvestrini, expert Swiss coach. Nadia Inveraldi, owner of the equestrian center and not new to training experiences mediated by horses, confirms that IMA members were pioneers in this innovative technique, still almost unknown in Italy.
Let's start from the beginning: the horse. This intelligent, sensitive and empathetic animal accompanies human docilely only if perceiving a centered state of mind; in which different physical, mental and emotional energy levels are adequately balanced. After establishing in a natural way the individual relationship with the horse chosen as workmate, each participant was first guided by the coach to experience the concept "if you are firm, the horse follows you".
We immediately tested the practical application of what we were experimenting: when we are truly convinced of our project, with all our resources focused on bringing it to fruition, "we do not allow any obstacle to stop us" (Silvia C.). All energy aspects are positively aligned; we are fully aware of our strengths and abilities, “we increase our self-confidence” (Beatrice) and our well-being. This creates a positive power situation that allows to be more effective thanks to a strong inner energy. “Free of fear, everybody can realize to be ready to start new projects” (Selvaggia).
The main theme of the equicoaching experience was "Bring out your inner strength", that is, "let your inner strength spring forth", to bypass any unpleasant situation. Starting from a “coaching on business issues" situation, our members soon understood that this approach allows a "direct link between professional issues and those strictly personal "(Silvia S.). In the participants’s words, the positive impact of the day and the experience, defined as "strong","profound" (Silvia S.), "useful" (Silvia C.), "emotional, liberating but also strenuous" (Michela), because "it is hard to listen to an inner part that we normally don't pay attention to" (Silvia S.), our energy center. The experience has also been defined as "revealing" (Beatrice and Selvaggia), because it is a "step forward in self-awareness" (Silvia C.). Aware of ourselves, we “improve our communication style” (Michela) and our interpersonal approach, and the results can be seen at all personal and professional levels.
Through this common thread, exercises were carried out in form 1 to 1 with the horse, then in pairs, finally all the participants together to simulate teamwork. Among the proposed exercises, the group also appreciated the body scan: come back to oneself after shaking off negativity and fixing the well-being through a gesture that can be resumed after. The participants suggest everyone to try equicoaching, as it is a direct and immediately effective technique, moreover no previous riding experience is required. It is an adrenaline leap in the dark, but with a parachute, if you are guided by an expert coach and if you are in a location suitable for rediscovering energizing contact with horses and with nature in general.
The whole group hopes to repeat this positive experience, quite a success for IMA Italy.
